Lasso changes state of emergency in Ecuador ahead of elections

Caracas.- The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, changed the state of emergency in force in the three provinces of Manabí and Los Ríos and in the municipality of Durán (Guayas) in response to the presidential elections on 20th August.

Lasso stipulated that all “duly accredited actors in the electoral process” could travel through Manabí, Los Ríos and Durán during the curfew (from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.) from August 6 to 30.

The change to the decree came after National Electoral Council (CNE) President Diana Atamaint requested on Wednesday that there should be no restrictions on its officials and observers in the August 20 extraordinary election.

Lasso also added entities providing the public land transportation service, election officials, vote receiving board members, representatives of political organizations, national and international observers, and other duly accredited actors in the election process.
