Lando Norris renews with McLaren until 2025

22-year-old British driver Lando Norris has renewed his contract until 2025 with McLaren, the team, with which he has been competing in Formula 1 since 2019, announced on Wednesday.

"It’s a strong message, this is where I want to be, where I want to win races, get podiums and the championship." in the coming years, explained Norris, sixth in the hierarchy of F1 drivers in 2021, during a virtual meeting with the press.

"At McLaren we have very ambitious goals for the future. We want to get back to a position where we regularly fight for race and championship victories."explained the ‘Team Principal’ of McLaren, the German Andreas Seidl.

"This contract is a big commitment on our part. We believe a lot in Lando’s talent. We think that he can be a key element to achieve that goal"assured.

McLaren finished fourth in the constructors’ championship in 2021, with Daniel Ricciardo still under contract for two more seasons. The team hasn’t won the constructors’ championship since 1998, under Finn Mika Hakkinen, and the drivers’ championship since 2008, under Lewis Hamilton.

Norris had already renewed "for several years" in May 2021. This time "it is more or less an extension of the existing contract, which would not have given us more than two additional years with Lando"Seidl specified.

The 2022 season, which begins in Bahrain on March 20, will be marked by the new technical regulations, which could revolutionize the order established in previous years, so committing to a team for several years can be considered a risky bet.

Norris has yet to win a Grand Prix in sixty races, but has been on the podium five times and took pole position at the end of September in the race in Sochi, Russia.
