The LA Galaxy are struggling this season. Just six months after winning the Major League Soccer (MLS) title for the sixth time, they’re at the bottom of the Western Conference with three points and no wins in 12 games.
They’ve managed just one win and four draws in 16 games so far. This poor performance has already led to their elimination from the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals. The Galaxy’s start to the season is also the worst in MLS history.
Their latest defeat was a 7-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls. The final goal scored against them showed a clear lack of communication and team spirit. The clip of the seventh goal was widely shared on social media, highlighting the Galaxy’s defensive issues.
Key Losses and Injuries
The Galaxy’s struggles can be attributed to several factors, including the loss of Dejan Jovelic to Sporting KC. Jovelic was the team’s top scorer last season with 21 goals. Riqui Puig’s injury has also hurt the team. Puig, a creative Spanish player, had 31 goal contributions during the title-winning season but is still recovering from a ligament injury.
The team’s defensive weaknesses, which were present last season, have become more apparent. The Galaxy have conceded 33 goals and scored just 14 this season. Even star signing Marco Reus hasn’t made an impact. Reus, who joined the team last summer, missed the start of the season due to injury and has scored only one goal in eight games. He even started in the 7-0 loss to the Red Bulls.
A Glimmer of Hope
The Galaxy’s poor performance seems to have no end in sight. However, there’s one thing to be thankful for – the MLS doesn’t have relegation. This means the team won’t be demoted to a lower division, regardless of their performance.
