Jannik Sinner just lifted the Wimbledon trophy. He played a great final, beating Carlos Alcaraz. But after the match, something else got people talking. Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios sparked a stir online.
Kyrgios used his X (formerly Twitter) account. He posted a single asterisk (*). That was all. Many fans quickly figured out what he meant. They saw it as a subtle jab at the new Wimbledon champion.
This isn’t the first time Kyrgios has spoken about Sinner. Kyrgios was very vocal in February. That’s when Sinner received a three-month ban for a doping issue. Kyrgios believed Sinner’s punishment should have been much tougher. He said Sinner should have been banned for “one or two years.” Kyrgios even called it “a sad day for tennis.”
Sinner’s suspension kept him off the courts from February 9 until May 4. He has been back playing only a short while. Yet, he returned in top form. His big win over Alcaraz in the final cemented his place. He is now firmly at the very top of the world rankings. It seems Kyrgios’s past comments are still echoing. Sinner’s recent success just adds fuel to the fire.
