Kuwait: When will the renewal of work permit for elderly foreigners start?

Kuwait City: Kuwait has issued an important statement regarding work permits for foreigners over the age of 60.

According to the details, the Public Authority for Manpower has not yet issued any new guidelines regarding work permits for foreigners over 60 years of age with a high school diploma or less residing in Kuwait.

Informed sources told Al-Rai that the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director Public Authority for Manpower, Dr. Abdullah Al Salman will hold a meeting this week, in which the Board of Directors of the Authority will hold a meeting. The topic is to discuss the revocation of Director General Ahmed Al-Musa’s decision to ban work permits for this category.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Salman’s move follows the opinion of the Fatwa and Legislation Department of the Council of Ministers, which concluded that the decision to revoke the work permits of 60-year-olds (No. 520 of 2020) is illegal. It was released in August 2020 and was implemented on January 1, 2021.

Sources suggested that the meeting of the Manpower Board of Directors would approve the revocation of the decision on the grounds of two main reasons. There is manpower.

Second, the decision does not exist legally on the grounds that it was overturned by the association.

Sources said that according to the official approval of the authority to revoke the automated system and decision before the meeting of the board of directors, the renewal of work permit for the “60-year-old” class will not be allowed while the official decision. After the cancellation, the “system” will be opened for the renewal of work permits (residency) of 60 year olds.
