The Mad Figh Stadium in San Sebastián de los Reyes, Madrid, is set to host the first Kun Khmer event in Spain on February 8. Kun Khmer, the national sport of Cambodia, shares similarities with Muay Thai from Thailand, particularly in the use of eight limbs – fists, elbows, knees, and legs – to strike. However, in Kun Khmer, the elbows play an even more prominent role and are considered a lethal weapon in combat.
The event is organized by Mtr Fight Channel, in collaboration with the Cambodian promoter KSF and approved by the World Kickboxing and Karate Association (WKA) in Spain. It promises to be a professional evening, featuring top national and international fighters, as well as a Cambodian delegation. The poster includes six superfights and a male tournament in the 55-kilogram weight category, where the title will be contested by Kevin Martínez, Thai Barlow, and the Cambodians Sovannkhim and Bun Sothea.
One of the most anticipated fights is between Mario Álvarez, who will be competing at home after achieving international success in France, the UK, Cambodia, and Belgium, and Khim Bora. Álvarez, the Ishka Intercontinental Champion and winner of the Belle Équipe tournament in Paris, is expected to deliver an exciting performance. Additionally, Gonzalo Tébar, the Iska Kun Khmer World Champion, will face Khim Dimey, while Richi Álvarez, the Nai Khanom Tom champion, will take on Chansothy.
The female fights also promise to be thrilling, with Patricia López facing Colette Wadha, the British champion in her weight category, and Laura de Blas competing against Meg Corwell. With limited capacity, this event is a must-attend for combat sports enthusiasts. Tickets are available through the website and directly from the participants, and the event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
