Kun Agüero Trades Soccer for Formula E Racing with Porsche

Kun Agüero is undoubtedly the star of the Evo Sessions, alongside Brooklyn Beckham. The Argentine striker is one of the eleven personalities chosen by Formula E to become a driver for a day, and he’s doing it with the help of Porsche, the team that’s guiding him, and Pascal Wehrlein, a world champion who’s serving as his mentor for this competitive baptism. Agüero took a few minutes to chat with us about how he’s experiencing this training process, which will culminate with his debut on the track tomorrow in Miami, behind the wheel of the sleek Porsche 99X – the very same car driven by the current Formula E World Champion.

As Agüero stepped out of the simulator, he shared his initial impressions. “It’s been a great experience so far,” he said with a smile. “I arrived early today and took a few laps around the circuit in a Porsche car, with Pascal explaining some braking techniques to me. Then, I moved on to the simulator, and it’s been a fantastic learning curve.” Agüero’s adaptation to the simulator has been remarkable, considering he’s never driven a single-seater before. “At first, it felt a bit strange, but after a few laps, I started to get the hang of it,” he explained. “The key is to brake smoothly and anticipate the turns. If you brake too hard, the car can spin out of control.”

When asked if he was surprised by the level of difficulty in driving a Formula E car, Agüero replied, “I have a simulator at home, so I was somewhat familiar with the sensation. However, this one moves, and it’s a lot more realistic.” He also mentioned that he’s been following Formula 1 closely, but his involvement with Formula E has given him a new appreciation for the sport. “I’ve learned that driving a Formula E car requires a great deal of physical strength, concentration, and strategy,” he noted.

As Agüero prepares to take on the challenge of driving a Formula E car, he’s aware of the physical and mental demands of the sport. “Any athlete who competes at this level has to make enormous sacrifices,” he said. “You need to surround yourself with good people, be professional, eat well, and maintain a healthy weight. It’s a long and difficult journey, but it’s worth it in the end.” Agüero’s experience with Porsche has given him a newfound respect for the work that pilots do. “I’ve seen firsthand the amount of effort and dedication that goes into competing at this level,” he said. “It’s not just about getting in the car and driving; it’s about being part of a team and working together to achieve a common goal.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming event in Miami, Agüero is excited to hit the track and put his skills to the test. “I’m going to enjoy every moment of it,” he said. “I’ll be driving on the same circuit as the Formula 1 drivers, although it will be a slightly modified version. I’m looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity to learn from Pascal and the entire Porsche team.” With his debut just around the corner, Agüero is feeling confident and ready to take on the competition. “I’ve been training for a month with Porsche, and I feel prepared,” he said. “I’m going to give it my all and see what happens.”

As for his fellow Argentine, Lionel Messi, Agüero joked that he wouldn’t be daring him to get behind the wheel just yet. “He’s too busy with his own competitions,” Agüero said with a laugh. “Maybe one day, if he has the time, he can come check out what I’m doing.” For now, Agüero is focused on his own journey and the opportunity to drive a Formula E car. “I’m going to enjoy this experience and learn as much as I can,” he said. “I’m grateful for the chance to work with Pascal and the Porsche team, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
