KTM Director Compares Pedro Acosta to Michael Schumacher

The motorcycle racing world has been abuzz with the name Pedro Acosta, and for good reason – he’s the shining hope for KTM in MotoGP. This young talent has been making waves, and it’s no secret that the team is banking on him to lead them to victory. Having signed a two-year deal for 2025 and 2026, Acosta has reaffirmed his commitment to the team despite the economic uncertainty surrounding the Central European outfit.

KTM’s top brass is well aware of the gem they have in Acosta, and their entire project in the top category revolves around him. He was their top performer during the 2025 pre-season and was looking strong in the Thai Grand Prix until a unfortunate crash. As Pit Beirer, the director of KTM’s racing department, notes, “It’s been astounding to see how quickly he adapted to our way of working and gelled with the team. If we look beyond just the results, we see that he’s been fast every day, in every condition – that’s what makes him the strongest of all our riders and, in our opinion, the favorite among the four.” Beirer’s reference, of course, is to Acosta’s teammates Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini, and Maverick Viñales, who make up KTM’s formidable MotoGP lineup.

Comparisons and Expectations

The comparisons to Marc Márquez are inevitable, but Beirer is keen to downplay them, emphasizing that Acosta is a rare talent in his own right. “Pedro is an exceptional talent, the kind you only come across once in a decade,” he explains. “He’s not your typical Moto2 champion making the step up; he’s a raw diamond, and everyone agrees on that. But if we’re going to compare him to Marc Márquez after just one season in MotoGP, he’s still got a lot to learn.” Beirer stresses that such comparisons are pointless, urging the focus to remain on Acosta’s development. When Acosta approached the team during the winter to inquire about their readiness to provide him with a winning bike, the answer was a resolute yes. “We made him a promise, and we intend to keep it,” Beirer affirms.

As the racing season heats up, all eyes will be on Acosta to see if he can live up to the lofty expectations. With his dedication and natural ability, he’s certainly got the potential to make a significant impact.

A Surprising Comparison

Beirer does, however, draw another comparison that might raise a few eyebrows – to the legendary Michael Schumacher. “What strikes me about Pedro is his relentless desire to be on the bike every day, always looking for new tracks to train on. The results of these tests have been incredibly positive,” he observes. “He’s the last one to leave the circuit at night because he’s poring over the data with his technical team. This meticulous approach reminds me of Schumacher, who always managed to squeeze the maximum out of his technical package.” It’s high praise indeed, but if anyone can live up to it, Acosta just might be the one. With his passion, work ethic, and natural talent, the young KTM rider is ready to take the MotoGP world by storm.
