Kroos adds fuel to the fire in Germany

Toni Kroos is no longer part of the mannschaftbut the debacle of the German team in Qatar, where they were eliminated in the group stage for the second time in a row, has not left the Madrid midfielder indifferent. It’s more: the footballer was not shy about proposing what, from his point of view, should be Oliver Bierhoff’s successor as manager of the four-time world champion. Kroos believes that Per Mertesacker, a former Arsenal centre-back and member of the team that lifted the World Cup in 2014, would be the best option.

“I could imagine one very well. And there I am with Marcel Reif (former commentator and now analyst of the German daily Bild), who suggested Per Mertesacker”, were the words of the Madrid star in the podcast einfach mal luppen which he shares with his brother Felix. Mertesacker, who also works as an expert for the ZDF public channel, has been director of the Arsenal academy since 2018, contributing in this way directly to the current successes of the gunnersleaders of the Premier at the moment.

“I truly believe that Per is the perfect man for the position,” underlined the Madrid star. “He has a great personality, absolute authority, and on the other hand, he can also be a colleague. But he is very professional and he could also get a certain closeness with the fans to be created again. In my eyes, he would be the perfect man for that”, Kroos concluded, making it clear at the same time that he would not be available to the German federation (DFB) to fill a position. “I am very comfortable on the podcast,” he explained with a laugh. So far, Bierhoff’s successor has not been named.
