Kompany Incensed by Musiala’s Severe Injury During Bayern’s CWC Defeat

Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany spoke after his team’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. But his focus wasn’t on the scoreline. Instead, a deep anger brewed inside him, all because of the awful injury suffered by young star Jamal Musiala.

The incident happened right before halftime in the Club World Cup quarter-final match. Musiala went down hard after a clash with PSG goalkeeper Donnarumma. The immediate news was grim: a broken fibula and damage to several ligaments. It was a brutal blow for the German giants.

Kompany admitted his emotions were running high. “We didn’t like what happened,” he said. He quickly added that it seemed like an accident. Still, to see it happen a minute before the break felt incredibly unlucky for Musiala and the team.

The young player, just 22 years old, had only recently returned to the pitch. He had been sidelined for the past three months with another injury. This made Kompany’s rage even stronger. He didn’t want to talk about how serious the new injury was, but his anger was clear.

“I’ve never been so furious at halftime,” Kompany stated. He clarified that his anger wasn’t aimed at his players. It was directed at the cruel twist of fate that hit Musiala. “For these young men, football is their life,” he explained. “He had just come back to play, and now this. You feel helpless in these situations.” The coach emphasized that the loss itself didn’t make him boil with rage, but Musiala’s suffering did. “It doesn’t look good,” he lamented, “If you look at the images, you can see how much he was suffering.”

The defeat meant Bayern was out of the competition. This match also marked Thomas Muller’s last appearance for the Bayern squad.
