  • People sitting outside don’t know the reason behind such behavior in the field: Kohli
  • Our team has overcome this controversy: Kohli

Indian captain Virat Kohli has given his clarification on the controversy arising from the DRS. Defending his team’s verbal attack on broadcasters after the controversial DRS decision went in favor of Dean Elgar, he said on Friday that people sitting outside did not know the reasons for such behavior on the field.

Kohli said at the post-match press conference on Friday: “I have no comment on this. We know what happened on the pitch and the people sitting outside don’t know what is happening on the pitch. We were blown away by the emotions. ..” Kohli did not finish the sentence. Kohli added: “If we had dominated there and taken three wickets, that moment probably would have changed the course of the game.”

Kohli and his teammates lost their cool during the final 45 minutes of the third day of the third Test when South Africa captain Dean Elgar was held in the crease due to a controversial decision by the DRS. The incident occurred in the 21st when a bouncing ball from Ravichandran Ashwin directly hit Elgar’s pads. Referee Marias Erasmus raised a finger but Elgar took the DRS. However, replays showed the ball going over the wicket and the umpire had to change his decision. Indian players openly expressed their disappointment at this. Kohli, who has played 99 Tests so far, said he doesn’t want it to be a controversy and his team has gone above and beyond. “The reality is that we didn’t push him hard enough for long enough in this test match and that’s why we lost the match,” he said.
