Johannesburg: South Africa has lifted the night curfew first imposed two years ago to prevent the spread of corona virus infection. The Office of the President made an announcement to this effect following meetings of the National Corona Virus Command Council (NCCC) and the Presidential Coordinating Council (PCC) on Thursday. The office inquired about the handling of the fourth wave of infection currently underway in the country. We tell you that South Africa is the only country where Omicron infection was first detected, so now the reduction in cases is a sign of relief.
The fourth wave still persists in South Africa
The fourth wave is reportedly still lingering in the country although cases have started to decline. Most fourth wave cases occur against Omicron, a new variant of the corona virus infection. The Office of the President said in a statement: ‘The curfew will be lifted. There will no longer be any restrictions on the time of movement of people. The number of people attending public events has also increased. “No more than a thousand people will be able to gather in closed places and two thousand in open places,” the statement said.
‘Country crosses fourth wave peak nationwide’
The statement from the president’s office further read: ‘When the ceremony venue is small and where not so many people can attend by following the proper social distance, only half the venue’s capacity will be invited. Other restrictions will continue as before. All indicators indicate that the country has passed the peak of the fourth wave at the national level. He also said that the number of cases has decreased in recent weeks, except in 2 of the nine provinces of the country.
