A teenage girl was stabbed to death and three others were injured in a knife attack at a private school in the western French city of Nantes. The suspect was caught by a teacher until police arrived to take control.
Witnesses describe students running for safety as an alarm sounded during lunch. Parents rushed to the school after news spread. Emergency services, including soldiers, evacuated students and staff starting around 3:30 p.m. local time.
Antoine Leroy, the Nantes prosecutor, visited the scene and promised a formal briefing soon. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Response from Authorities
French President Emmanuel Macron praised the teacher’s bravery on social media, saying it prevented a worse tragedy. Prime Minister François Bayrou called for stricter weapons checks in schools, framing the incident as a societal issue rather than just a news event.
The school, Notre Dame de Toutes Aides, was put under lockdown as authorities investigated the incident.
