The fifth season of the Kings League kicked off on Sunday, February 15, marking a new chapter in the competition created by Gerard Piqué. It’s been two years since its launch in January 2023, and despite expanding to Mexico and Italy, the league is still going strong in our country. But if we take a closer look at the numbers, there’s a sense of concern – the audiences have been dwindling since its inception, with a significant drop-off between the second and third split. In this fifth season, the numbers are almost four times lower than in 2023, which raises some eyebrows.
The highest point, on the third split average
Looking at the data published by TV Top, it’s clear that the League is reaching a bit of a low point. On average, the Gerard Piqué League drew in around 135,000 spectators across Twitch, Kick, YouTube, and Tiktok. Now, it’s worth noting that these numbers don’t include the viewership from individual streamers, which in many cases exceeded 10,000 and 20,000 on the first day. So, the actual numbers might be slightly higher than what we’re seeing from the official league streams.
The highest point of the fifth season so far came during the match between Saiyans and Pigs, which saw Thegrefg’s team emerge victorious. Interestingly, Montoya’s visit to Cupra Arena attracted around 193,000 spectators at its peak – the golden minute, as it were. What’s striking is that this number is almost identical to the average viewership of the third split. On the first day of the third split, the competition reached 192,000 spectators, which tells us that there’s been a significant descent in the competition’s popularity. It’s interesting to think about what might be causing this decline – is it a natural plateau, or are there other factors at play?
The contrast between the two seasons is quite stark, to say the least. On one hand, you have the third split, which saw a relatively strong start with 192,000 spectators on the first day. On the other hand, the fifth season’s average viewership is almost four times lower, which is a pretty dramatic drop-off. It’ll be interesting to see how the season unfolds and whether the league can recover some of its lost momentum. For now, though, it seems like the Kings League is facing a bit of a challenge in terms of attracting and retaining viewers.
