Extracts from Tom Bower’s 2022 book, “Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors,” are again circulating, revealing King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s private feelings about Meghan Markle.
Charles, 77, reportedly felt “disconcert” towards Meghan, 44, during a 2018 trip to Mey Castle in Scotland with the royal family. Bower claimed Charles “never truly understood her or what she wanted.”
Queen Camilla, 78, was consistently “worried about Harry’s future,” according to the book. She allegedly had “nothing in common” with Meghan.
Camilla supposedly questioned the former “Suits” star’s “flirtatious smiles and effusive behavior.” She reportedly did not believe Meghan would “sacrifice her independence to quietly serve as part of the team.”
Another passage in Bower’s book states Charles “reprimanded” Harry and Meghan over Thomas Markle’s public appearances. Charles reportedly told his son and daughter-in-law to “make this stop,” referring to Thomas’s various interviews.
Us Weekly previously contacted the Sussex team and Buckingham Palace for comment regarding these claims.
Despite these revelations, Prince Harry’s 2023 memoir, “Spare,” painted a different picture of Meghan’s relationship with his father. Harry wrote that Meghan and Charles “always had a strong relationship.”
He said this bond grew stronger “during that weekend” at Mey Castle. Harry noted that he and Meghan “spoke a bit” with his father “about the stress we’d been enduring,” and there were “good vibes.”
Harry and Meghan have been at odds with the royal family since stepping down as working royals in 2020. They subsequently moved to the United States.
However, this year has marked a significant shift for Harry and his father. The two held a private meeting in September, reestablishing a previously broken line of communication.
The meeting followed a handwritten letter from Harry to Charles earlier this year. In it, Harry expressed his desire to reconnect.
This was the first time the father and son had seen each other in almost two years. A source told Us Weekly details of the emotional encounter.
They “personally discussed the children and what has been going on with Charles and his health,” the insider shared. Harry has two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with Meghan.
King Charles has been battling an undisclosed type of cancer since February 2024. The source reported “hugs and tears at the meeting.”
“They had a long hug when they first saw each other,” the source added. “Harry broke down in tears and it was very emotional for both of them. They had truly missed each other.”
The meeting took place in September because Harry was in London at the time. A “short window of time” allowed them to coincide.
They met at Clarence House, the King’s residence. This location was chosen for its “more intimate, less formal atmosphere” compared to Buckingham Palace. They sought an “intimate setting to reconnect personally without pressure.”
