Kim Sharma, the actress who made her acting debut with the film “Mohabbatein,” recently opened up about her audition experience in a chat with Kunika Sadanand on her YouTube channel. Kim revealed that her entry into the film industry was quite casual, and it all started when Yash Raj Films (YRF) spotted her in an advertisement. At the time, Kim’s family was unaware of the film industry, and her mother had no idea what it entailed. Kim was traveling, and her mother didn’t even know her whereabouts.
Kim shared that she received a personal call from YRF, and that’s how she ended up auditioning for the film. She was just 18 years old at the time and had no prior experience in acting. Kim recounted that her audition with Karan Johar was particularly memorable, as he told her that she couldn’t dance or act. He even questioned her decision to become an actress, asking her what made her think she could be a heroine. Kim replied that she wasn’t interested in acting but had come to the audition because she was asked to. She didn’t expect anything to come out of it.
Kim’s third audition was with Aditya Chopra, and fortunately, he liked her. She remembered that her family had no connection to the film industry, and she had only watched a handful of films with her family before joining the industry. Even after meeting big stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, Kim didn’t fully grasp the significance of the opportunity. It wasn’t until the film’s release that she began to understand the industry’s dynamics.
However, Kim’s journey in the industry was not without its challenges. She faced numerous obstacles, including networking, building relationships, and navigating the complexities of the film business. As a young teenager, Kim was a model and had a rebellious streak, often smoking on set and getting tattoos. Her manager was shocked by her behavior, telling her that she couldn’t do such things as a heroine. Kim felt like she was being forced to conform to certain rules and expectations, which led to her feeling like a rebel. She struggled with authority and faced sexism, which was a new experience for her.
After the release of “Mohabbatein,” Kim received negative reviews, with many people criticizing her performance. She remembered feeling hurt and wondering why people would say such things about her. However, she decided not to take the criticism seriously, choosing instead to focus on her strengths and find the positive in every situation. Despite the challenges she faced, Kim has come out stronger and wiser, with a deeper understanding of the film industry and its complexities.
