Kim Jong Un Makes Rare Visit to North Korea’s Security Agencies for 80th Anniversary

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made an unusual public tour of the country’s top security and judicial agencies, underscoring their critical mission to protect the socialist system and defend against external adversaries.

The visit, reported by state media on November 19, 2025, marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of these powerful institutions.

It was Kim’s first direct engagement with these specific ministries and the Supreme Court since 2012, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

During his stops at the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of State Security, Supreme Court, and Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office, Kim Jong Un was met by senior officials, including Minister Ri Chang Dae.

He offered “warm greetings” to officials, praising their “patriotic loyalty” in protecting the ruling party and the state.

Kim stressed that these agencies must “protect the work of the party and government with law and weapons,” explicitly linking legal authority with coercive force.

He reiterated their mandate to ensure the “well-being of the people” and preserve the “Korean-style socialist system.”

The leader also commended security officials for their “brilliant deeds and achievements” in helping the party secure “victory over external enemies.”

He expressed confidence in their continued “responsible duties” as the “political guardians” of the party.

Kim was accompanied by high-ranking party figures, including Party Secretary Jo Yong Won, Party Director Kim Hyong Sik, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly Kang Yun Sok.

The report originated from the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), as cited by South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.
