Kévin Vauquelin wins the 55th Tour of the Alpes-Maritimes

The French Kevin Vauquelin, of the Arkéa Samsic team, was proclaimed this Sunday champion of the 55th edition of the Tour of the Alpes-Maritimes and from the Var after the third and last stage, which was won by his compatriot Aurélien Paret-Peintre, from AG2R Citroën and second in the final overall.

Kévin Vauquelin, 21, who took the lead by winning the first stage, kept the leader’s jersey until the end. end with 7 seconds ahead of Paret-Peintre and 10 over American Nelson Powless (EF Education-EasyPost).

Paret-Peintre won the closing stage, of 131.8 kilometers between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Vence, with a 5-second margin over the peloton, led by the Dane Mattias Sjelmosse (Trek-Segafredo) and Vauquelin, who thus celebrated his first professional victory in a stage race. The Frenchman succeeds the Colombian Nairo Quintana, winner in 2022, in the historical record of the race.
