Kevin Federline makes startling new claims about his past marriage to Britney Spears in his upcoming memoir, “You Thought You Knew.” An excerpt released this Tuesday, October 14, details alarming allegations concerning their children.
Federline, 47, alleges that his two sons with Spears—Sean Preston, now 20, and Jayden James, now 19—were afraid to stay at their mother’s home. He recounts unsettling incidents in the book.
“Sometimes they would wake up at night and find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep—’Oh, you’re awake?’—with a knife in her hand,” Federline writes. “Afterward, she would turn around and walk away without explanation.”
The memoir reflects on their marriage, which lasted from 2004 to 2007. Federline recalls Spears’ involuntary psychiatric hospitalization in 2008 following a confrontation involving their children.
He describes that period as “one of the hardest nights of my life.” He felt deeply for Spears, whom he loved and with whom he built a life and family.
Following their separation, Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, placed her under a conservatorship. This legal arrangement ended in November 2021, but Federline expresses continued concern for the pop star.
“The truth is, this situation with Britney seems to be moving toward something irreversible,” an excerpt states. “It has become impossible to pretend everything is fine.”

Federline warns of potential consequences. “Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our children will be left picking up the pieces.”
A representative for Spears, 43, responded to Federline’s claims in a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday. The statement suggests Federline and others are benefiting from Spears, noting that child support payments have concluded.
Spears’ representative emphasized her focus remains on her sons’ well-being “during all this sensationalism.” Spears shared her own experiences in her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me.”
In an interview discussing the new book, Federline asserted his actions are driven by concern for his children. “I have never, ever, been against Britney,” he stated.
He aims to help his sons maintain a strong relationship with their mother. Federline noted his children do not know “the woman I married.” He has spent two decades trying to bridge that gap.
Federline also addressed the #FreeBritney movement. He urges those who supported it to now focus on a “Save Britney” movement, arguing “this is no longer about freedom. It’s about survival.”
He calls upon anyone “who has ever felt moved by Britney” to voice concern for their children. “Now, more than ever, they need your support. It’s time to sound the alarm,” Federline writes.
“You Thought You Knew” is scheduled for release next Tuesday, October 21.
