According to eyewitnesses, Akhil was on the field when the unfortunate incident happened, and he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, they were unable to save his life.
As reported by news agency PTI, the police stated that Akhil, a resident of Puthuvallam Lakshamveedu Colony in Kodupunna, was playing cricket with his friends when the lightning bolt struck him. A Freak Accident
The incident occurred at around 3:30 pm on Sunday, when Akhil received a call while fielding. As he answered the phone, the lightning struck, causing the device to explode in his hands. His friend, Sharan, who was also injured in the incident, revealed that the phone had been the primary conductor of the electrical current. Sharan suffered minor injuries but is expected to recover. Akhil, who worked as a welder, was a passionate cricketer and an integral part of his local team.
This tragic incident is not an isolated one, as there have been reports of similar incidents in the past.
