Keith Urban Jokes About Pickup Lines With Blake Shelton Before Divorce

Keith Urban and Blake Shelton showcased their camaraderie on a recent episode of CBS’s The Road. The country music stars shared an embrace and engaged in playful banter. Their interactions included jokes about pickup lines.

During the October 27 episode, the two musicians watched contestant performances. One artist asked the audience to hug those they loved. Urban, 57, then told Shelton, 49, "I’m gonna love you till I run out of gas."

Later in the episode, another performer sang about cowboys. Shelton jokingly asked Urban, "Do you think that’s a good pickup line? Hey, cowboy, what’s your name?" Urban quickly responded, "Well, not from you."

The Road features 12 emerging musicians. They compete for the chance to open for Urban during his U.S. tour. Contestants advance based on audience reaction.

Notably, Urban filmed The Road prior to significant personal news. Us Weekly confirmed his separation from wife Nicole Kidman in September. They had been married for 19 years.

Urban and Kidman, 58, first met in 2005, following her divorce from Tom Cruise, 63. They married a year later. The couple welcomed daughter Sunday Rose in 2008 and Faith via surrogacy in 2010. Kidman also has adopted children, Isabella and Connor, with Cruise.

During filming, Urban reflected on the demanding nature of life on the road. He described touring as a "calling." He spoke of waking up sick and alone on a bus at 3:30 AM.

Urban questioned why he endured such conditions. His only answer was being "born for this." The show aims to discover other artists "made for it."

Urban also discussed the "discipline" required for music industry success. He cited his schedule, including a Las Vegas concert, then filming, then another Vegas show.

Gretchen Wilson serves as tour manager, with executive producer Taylor Sheridan offering advice. Guest advisors include Jordan Davis, Karen Fairchild, Dustin Lynch, and Brothers Osborne. The Road airs Sundays at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time on CBS and is available for streaming on Paramount+.
