It seems pop superstar Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are still quietly seeing each other. After their very public dinner date a couple of months ago, insiders tell a major entertainment news outlet that they’ve decided to keep things much more private.
"They chose to be much more discreet," one source shared. "They stay in touch and are very interested in one another."
Another source, however, points out that Perry’s current relationship with Trudeau isn’t super serious. That’s because the "Firework" singer is incredibly busy. She’s currently on her Lifetimes Tour.
This insider also mentioned that Trudeau has made plans to see Perry in a few weeks. That’s when she’ll have some downtime after her tour leg in Brazil wraps up. This break happens right before her European tour kicks off on October 4. The source added that Perry is taking things one day at a time, but she’s definitely open to dating. The entertainment outlet tried to reach out to Perry and Trudeau’s representatives for comments.
Their First Public Outing
Perry, who is 40, and Trudeau, 53, first made headlines on July 28. They were spotted taking her dog, Nugget, for a walk in Montreal’s parc du Mont-Royal. Later that evening, the pop star and the former Canadian leader enjoyed dinner at a fancy restaurant called Le Violon. There, they sipped cocktails and shared dishes like beef tartare, lobster, gnocchi, and lamb.
A representative for the elegant restaurant told the Associated Press that Perry and Trudeau spent about two hours together. However, there wasn’t "any visible sign of public affection or anything." Meanwhile, Le Violon’s co-owner and co-executive chef, Danny Smiles, shared with The New York Times that the pair "was in a really good mood."
After their meal, Perry and Trudeau finished their night with drinks on the patio of Taverne Atlantic. Just two days later, Trudeau was seen attending her concert at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Recent Relationship Changes
The "Teenage Dream" singer started spending time with the politician shortly after she ended things with her former fiancé, Orlando Bloom. Perry and Bloom share a 5-year-old daughter named Daisy.
An entertainment news outlet reported on June 25 that Perry and the 48-year-old Lord of the Rings star had amicably called off their six-year engagement earlier in the year. A week later, their representatives confirmed the news in a joint statement. It said, "Orlando and Katy have been redefining their relationship over the last few months to focus on co-parenting." The statement added that they "will continue to be seen together as a family, as their priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect."
Bloom recently talked about the split during an interview on the Today show. He told Craig Melvin on September 5, "I’m great, man. I’m very grateful. We have the most beautiful daughter." He also said, "We’re good. We’re gonna be good. It’s just love."
Before their romance, Perry was married to Russell Brand. Bloom was married to Miranda Kerr, with whom he has a 14-year-old son, Flynn.
Trudeau, for his part, announced his separation from his ex-wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, in August 2023. They had been married for 18 years and have three children: 17-year-old Xavier, 16-year-old Ella-Grace, and 11-year-old Hadrien.
