Karun Chandhok, a former Formula 1 pilot, has expressed his admiration for Fernando Alonso’s career, stating that he had hoped the Spanish driver would have won more championships. Throughout his career, Alonso has achieved two world championships, in 2005 and 2006, and was close to winning more titles, including in 2007 and 2012. Chandhok believes that Alonso’s talent and past performances deserved more titles than the two he currently holds.
Chandhok, who piloted for 11 large awards in the 2010 Formula 1 season, said, “I hoped he would win more worldwide if I’m sincere, but if you look at what he has done so far. World Champion in 2005 and 2006, and stayed at a point to win the title in 2007. The 2008 Renault was not great, but it was still up there and getting results.” He also mentioned that Alonso was close to winning more championships, missing out by a minimal amount of points. “If you look at the following years, I think he is eight points to be five times world champion, Fernando, if 2007 and 2012. I would have hoped that he was several times world champion more than the two he got,” Chandhok explained.
Alonso’s future in motoring
Currently, Alonso has a contract with Aston Martin until 2026, ensuring his presence in Formula 1 for the next two years. He will continue to compete for podiums and victories. However, there is speculation about his future in other categories of motoring.

Chandhok believes that Alonso’s passion for motoring will keep him involved in the sport for a long time. “I could imagine having a very long race, maybe not until 40 and peak, but until 40, because Fernando loves motoring. He loves to go outside and run the Dakar, Le Mans and all this kind of thing, but fundamentally his life revolves around turning in circles. He spends his weeks driving in his karts and as I said, he hoped he was until 40,” Chandhok explained.
There has been recent interest in Alonso participating in Le Mans, with Red Bull pilot Max Verstappen being considered as a potential teammate. This development suggests that Alonso’s future in motoring may extend beyond his current contract with Aston Martin, with possibilities in other categories and races.
