Karnataka HC Denies Relief to RCB in Stadium Stampede Case

The Karnataka High Court has denied bail to Nikhil Sosale, the marketing and revenue head of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Sosale was arrested on June 6 in connection with the stampede that occurred outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, which resulted in the deaths of 11 people. The court has reserved its order until June 11 and will hear the case again on June 12.

Sosale had challenged his arrest in the high court, claiming it was unlawful and influenced by political motives. However, the court refused to grant him relief. The stampede occurred when a large crowd gathered outside the stadium to celebrate RCB’s IPL 2025 win and catch a glimpse of the team and the trophy.

The state government has suspended several senior police officers in connection with the incident and announced a compensation of 25 lakh rupees to the families of the deceased, up from the initial 10 lakh rupees. RCB has also announced a compensation of 10 lakh rupees to the families of the victims.

The court’s decision to deny bail to Sosale has significant implications for the investigation into the stampede. The case will continue to be heard on June 12, and the court’s final verdict is expected to be delivered soon.

In the meantime, the families of the victims are still coming to terms with their loss. The incident has raised questions about the safety and security arrangements at the stadium and the responsibility of the organizers and authorities in preventing such tragedies.

The state government’s decision to increase the compensation amount is a step in the right direction, but it is still unclear whether it will be enough to provide adequate support to the families of the victims. RCB’s announcement of additional compensation is also a welcome move, but it remains to be seen how the franchise will support the families in the long term.

As the investigation into the stampede continues, it is essential to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The safety and security of fans should be the top priority for organizers and authorities, and it is crucial that they take concrete steps to address the concerns raised by this tragic incident.
