Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar Denies Interest in Buying RCB Team

Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, has finally spoken out about the rumors surrounding the potential sale of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team. In a recent interview with news agency ANI, Shivakumar dismissed the speculation, jokingly saying, “What do I need RCB for? I don’t even drink Royal Challenge, I’m not crazy.”

Shivakumar, who has been associated with the Karnataka State Cricket Association for a long time, made it clear that he has no interest in buying the team. “I’ve been a member of the KCA since childhood, but that’s about it,” he said. “I don’t have the time to get involved in managing a franchise. I’ve received such offers before, but I’m not interested.”

The rumors about RCB’s potential sale started circulating when a report claimed that the team’s owners, Diageo PLC, were considering selling the franchise. It was reported that United Spirits Limited, the company that owns RCB through Diageo, was thinking of selling the team, either partially or fully. This sparked speculation on social media that Shivakumar might be interested in buying the team.

RCB is currently one of the most popular and valuable teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with an estimated worth of around ₹8,600 crore (approximately $1 billion). The team recently made history by winning the IPL 2025 championship, their first title in 18 years, after defeating Punjab in the final.

The victory was celebrated with a parade at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which was attended by thousands of fans. However, the celebration turned tragic when the crowd got out of control, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and injuring 56 others.

Despite the rumors, it seems that RCB is not going anywhere, and Shivakumar is not interested in buying the team. The team’s fans can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that their beloved RCB will continue to compete in the IPL without any changes in ownership.
