The Indian box office continues to be dominated by the South Indian film “Kantara Chapter 1,” as other major releases struggle to maintain momentum. This trend highlights a significant shift in audience preferences.
Rishab Shetty’s “Kantara Chapter 1” has proven a cultural phenomenon, captivating audiences with its folkloric narrative, stunning cinematography, and powerful background score. The film debuted with an impressive $7.41 million (61.85 crore INR) on its opening day.
After two weeks, its total earnings had reached approximately $58.08 million (485 crore INR). On its latest reported Friday, the film added another $1.09 million (9.12 crore INR) to its coffers.
This brings the total collection for “Kantara Chapter 1” to an astounding $59.21 million (494.38 crore INR). Its sustained success firmly establishes the growing strength of South Indian cinema.

Meanwhile, Bollywood offerings are facing an uphill battle. Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari” failed to meet expectations despite initial audience curiosity.
The light family entertainer started with a decent opening but saw its pace significantly drop in its second week. On the latest reported Friday, it earned just $0.11 million (89 lakh INR).
“Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari” has a cumulative collection of $6.71 million (55.99 crore INR). Industry analysts suggest its struggle is partly due to competing with a powerhouse like “Kantara Chapter 1.”

Telugu superstar Pawan Kalyan’s action film “De Call Him OG” also saw a decline in its third week. While his strong screen presence and action sequences initially impressed, its momentum has considerably slowed.
The film collected only $0.04 million (35 lakh INR) on its latest reported Friday. Its total collection now stands at $23.11 million (193 crore INR). Despite praise for the lead pair, the film is losing its hold.

Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s “Jolly LLB 3” attempted to revive classic courtroom comedy. The film provided entertainment but failed to generate substantial box office magic.
It earned $0.03 million (26 lakh INR) on the latest reported Friday, bringing its total business to $13.71 million (114.46 crore INR). The story’s somewhat repetitive nature was offset by the chemistry between Kumar and Warsi.
