Kantara 2 Controversy: AICWA Demands FIR Against Producers After Junior Artist’s Death

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) is calling for an impartial investigation into the death of junior artist MF Kapil during the filming of “Kantara 2 (Chapter 1)” in Kollur, Karnataka. Kapil drowned while swimming in a river on May 6, 2025. An FIR has been filed at the Kollur police station.

Concerns Over Film Set Safety

AICWA is deeply concerned about the rising number of fatalities on film sets. The organization has previously raised issues regarding the deaths of technicians during the filming of “Indian 2” and “Sardar 2”. In November last year, 20 junior artists were involved in a bus accident while traveling.

  • AICWA demands a thorough investigation into Kapil’s death.
  • The organization questions the claim that drowning was the cause of death.
  • AICWA alleges that producers often downplay such incidents and provide misleading information.

Demands for Action

AICWA has made several demands:

  • An impartial, high-level probe into MF Kapil’s death.
  • Registration of an FIR against producer Rishab Shetty and the production house.
  • Compensation of ₹1 crore to Kapil’s family by the producers of “Kantara 2”.

AICWA has written to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging him to take action. The organization expressed deep sorrow over Kapil’s demise in a statement on X/Twitter, highlighting the need for transparency in such cases.

AICWA criticized the practice of concealing the true causes of deaths on film sets and intimidating workers who seek to uncover the truth. The organization emphasized that this practice must end to ensure safety and accountability in the film industry.
