New Zealand captain Kane Williamson may be left out of the upcoming two-leg test series against South Africa. This information has been given in a report on the stuff.co.nz website. Williamson has been off the pitch since the Kanpur Test against India in November 2021 as he is still recovering from an elbow injury.

The report said: “Kane Williamson is recovering from an elbow injury, which has ruled him out of the Black Caps’ last three series. The Test series against the Proteas kicks off in Christchurch from February 17, at the that Williamson will not be present. Starter Tom Latham, who captained the team in the Test against Bangladesh, is now expected to continue in the Test role against South Africa. The team, to be announced at the end of the week, will play Blackcap Test cricket for the first time since January 2008 without Williamson and the retired Ross Taylor.

Williamson has been troubled by an elbow injury since early 2021, when he was ruled out of three ODIs against Bangladesh in March. Williamson was later again ruled out of the Birmingham Test against England due to an elbow problem. Williamson then captained New Zealand to win the World Test Championship in Southampton and was runner-up in the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in October-November. But although an elbow injury ruled him out of the second test against India in Mumbai, the 31-year-old Williamson is now focused on recovering from the injury.
