Kamal Haasan stirs up a controversy with his comments on the Hindi language. The actor, known for his hit film “Ek Duuje Ke Liye,” says that people should learn Hindi without it being forced upon them. He believes that education is key and that forcing a language can create obstacles. Haasan also mentions that he stands with the people of Punjab, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, who are against the imposition of Hindi.
Recently, Haasan’s film “Thug Life” was not released in Karnataka due to his comments on the Kannada-Tamil controversy. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) stated that they would not allow the film to be released until Haasan apologized for his remarks. However, Haasan refused to apologize, leading to the film’s non-release in the state.
Haasan emphasizes the importance of learning English, citing its global significance. He notes that while other languages like Spanish or Chinese can be learned, English is a more practical choice due to its widespread use. The actor also highlights the 350-year history of English education in India, which he believes should not be suddenly changed.
The controversy surrounding “Thug Life” began when Haasan commented that the Kannada language originated from Tamil. This statement sparked outrage, and Haasan was asked to apologize, which he refused to do. As a result, the film’s release was blocked in Karnataka. The matter is currently pending in court, with the filmmakers seeking protection for the film’s release.
In a statement, Haasan said, “I’m an actor who has worked in ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye.’ We will learn Hindi without it being forced upon us because that’s education, and we should take the right path for education… and not create obstacles in its way.” He also added, “I stand with Punjab, I stand with Karnataka, I stand with Andhra. This is not the only place that is opposing the imposition of Hindi.”
