Kaique, 22, Shines for Nacional: ‘I Can Still Improve’

Young Brazilian goalkeeper Kaique has rapidly become a pivotal figure for Nacional, seizing an unexpected starting opportunity and delivering consistent performances that belie his 22 years.

Kaique stepped into the first-team lineup after regular starter Lucas França sustained an injury during the league’s seventh matchday. Since then, he has started five matches in the top-tier league, playing a total of 450 minutes and conceding only five goals.

The young player acknowledged his rapid ascent. “This sequence of games means I’m on the right track, working hard day-to-day to have the opportunity to help Nacional in the championship,” Kaique said through his press office.

He believes his current performances are strong but sees room for improvement. “I know I can still improve. I believe that throughout the year, I’ll be able to contribute even more to the club’s objectives,” he added, noting the team is playing well and can achieve its goals.

Nacional currently sits in 10th place in the league standings with 12 points. The team’s primary objective for the season is to maintain its position in the top division, although some within the club harbor hopes of a return to European competitions.

Kaique expressed his commitment to the team’s success. “I hope we can accumulate as many points as possible and, with that, help the team achieve its objectives. I want to contribute in the best possible way for that to happen,” he stated.

He also highlighted the gradual improvements in the team’s defensive cohesion. “The chemistry with the defense is something that comes with time, but I believe we are on the right track,” he said. “Our team has improved with each game and we are going step by step.”

Before joining Nacional, Kaique concluded last season playing for Farense, where his strong performances caught the attention of his current club.

He also praised his injured compatriot, Lucas França. “Besides being a great professional, he is a great person and helped me a lot to adapt better to the club,” Kaique noted.

The goalkeeper spoke highly of his coach, Tiago Margarido, who put faith in the 22-year-old. “Tiago Margarido is a very intelligent coach who has a hunger to win,” Kaique commented, adding that Margarido and his technical team aim to help players achieve their highest performance levels.

Following two training matches held on Friday, the Nacional squad is taking three days off before returning to work next Tuesday afternoon.
