The last week of the cycling calendar, with the Volta a Catalunya and classics such as La Panne, E3 Saxo Classic and Ghent-Wevelgem leave us with significant changes in the UCI world team ranking.
A ranking in which the UAE Team Emirates remains the leader for another week with 7,175.74 points after Tadej Pogacar achieved 260 as third in the E3 Saxo Classic; João Almeida added another 310 points in the Volta a Catalunya, of which 260 are as third overall; and Marc Soler, with another 265 points achieved in the Volta, of which 220 are like fourth overall. To these we must add the 175 points that Mikkel Bjerg achieved as sixth classified in Ghent-Wevelgem.
However, the leadership of UAE Emirates is threatened by the unstoppable rise of Jumbo-Visma, which this week is already second in the standings with 6,826.99 points. Wout Van Aert is to blame for this, who this week has added 400 as winner of E3 Saxo Classic and another 400 as second in Ghent-Wevelgem; and also Primoz Roglic, who scored 641 points in total in the Volta a Catalunya, 400 as overall winner and 50 for each of his two stage wins. In addition to Van Aert and Roglic, Christophe Laporte also contributed to this rise of the Jumbo-Visma, who took 500 points as the winner of Ghent-Wevelgem; and Olav Kooij, who took 250 as second in the La Panne Classic and 125 as eighth in Ghent-Wevelgem.
The rise of the Jumbo-Visma makes the Ineos-Grenadiers fall to third position with 4,607.74. A third position that is already threatening the Soudal Quick-Step, fourth with 4,545.56 points thanks to the goals scored by Remco Evenepoel, who scored 520 in the Volta of which 320 are as second overall and 50 for each of his two stage victories. Also contributing were Yves Lampaert, who won 215 as third in the La Panne Classic; Mauro Schmid who added 149 of which 125 are as the overall winner of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali; and Fabio Jakobsen, who achieved 120 as fifth in the La Panne Classic.
A ranking in which this week Intermarché-Circus-Wanty falls to fifth place, Bahrain-Victorious remains sixth and in which Trek-Segafredo and Lotto Dstny gain a position to the detriment of Groupama-FDJ, while the EF Education Easypost closes the Top-10 this week.
A Top-10 that Movistar wants to return to, which this week repeats in eleventh position with 2,886 points after adding Matteo Jorgenson’s 220 and Iván GarcÃa Cortina’s 180 as fourth and fifth place respectively in the E3 Saxo Classic, in addition to Einer Rubio’s 40 as thirteenth overall in the Volta. However, the Spanish team is seriously threatened by Alpecin-Deceuninck, twelfth this week with 2,831 points thanks to Mathieu Van der Poel’s 320 as second in E3 Saxo Classic, Jasper Philipsen’s 300 as winner of the La Panne Classic, and Soren Kragh Andersen’s 80 as ninth in E3 Saxo Classic.
