Juancho Hernangómez: The Next Generation of Greatness Wears the Legendary Number 10 for Spain

Spain’s Juancho Hernangómez Becomes New Number 10

Juancho Hernangómez, a key player for Spain’s national basketball team, has been handed the prestigious number 10 jersey. The Panathinaikos power forward will don the number, previously worn by mythical figures of national basketball such as Fernando Martín, one of the great pioneers of Spanish basketball.

Hernangómez had previously worn the number 41, but will now change to the iconic number 10, following in the footsteps of greats like Dirk Nowitzki. The number has a rich history in Spanish basketball, having been worn by players such as Carlos Cabezas and Víctor Claver in the past.

The change comes as Hernangómez prepares for the pre-Olympic tournament, with the aim of securing a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics. His brother, Willy, also plays for the national team, and both brothers will be wearing different numbers – Juancho as number 10, and Willy as number 14.

Hernangómez spoke about the pressure of playing for Spain, saying, “There is pressure in any championship and in any match with Spain. We have to live it with enthusiasm, with the opportunity to do it at home. Let the fans come, let them enjoy us playing at home. Together we can achieve this great goal.”

The Hernangómez brothers have a strong bond and are both determined to make a mark on the national team. With Juancho donning the number 10 jersey, the pair is poised to make a significant impact on the upcoming pre-Olympic tournament and the 2024 Olympics.
