Juana Barceló among the 100 women who inspire in global mining

Juana Barcelocurrent President of Barrick Pueblo Viejowas included in the list of the “100 inspiring women of Global Mining” from Women in Mining (WIM), a biennial publication that highlights the wealth of female talent within the mining industry globally.

In the year 2022, WIM received 915 nominations from 491 women from 61 countries globallyand at the regional level, nominees were received from countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina and Mexico.

All editions of this important This list includes the trajectory of women who work in mining around the world and show us how they have persevered in the face of adversity, how they have found solutions to challenges, and how they are empowering others by being a voice and leader for a more successful and sustainable mining industry.

Their stories provide inspiration and valuable perspective for everyone. These posts highlight the incredible diversity of talent among these 100 inspiring women. and their stories are integral to changing attitudes in the industry globally.

Barceló assumed the presidency of Pueblo Viejo in March 2018 and since then, she has led important changes in the national mining industry, breaking with old paradigms on the role of women in mining, managing to bring female participation in the Pueblo Viejo mine from 8% to 20%.

First launched in 2013, the biennial “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” publication, now in its fifth edition, highlights the incredible diversity of mining talent and celebrates inspiring women and their stories. WIM UK is a not-for-profit organization aimed at promoting the employment, retention and advancement of women in the mining sector.
