Joventut thrashes Murcia with an impressive second half

Joventut had no mercy against UCAM Murcia (94-68) to add their fourth consecutive victory in the Endesa League with a great second half in which they erased Sito Alonso’s team from the track, adding their fourth consecutive defeat.

Kyle Guy, with 22 points and 5 of 6 on three-pointers, was the top scorer in a coral Joventut in which Joel Parra and Andrés Feliz broke the game in the third quarter. And it is that the team showed its best defensive and offensive level in the second part, with 56 points.

The green and blacks, with Simon Birgander and Ante Tomic in their starting five, started with a 10-2 run in the first three minutes spurred on by the speed of Kyle Guy and Tomic’s points near the basket.

UCAM Murcia entered the match little by little, led by Travis Trice and James Anderson until they equalized (14-14, min. 7). The partial exchanges were the tonic throughout the entire first part.

A basket by Radovic put UCAM Murcia up on the scoreboard for the first time (20-21, min. 12), but La Penya reacted with a three-pointer from Guy to start a 16-4 run that took Joventut to their maximum difference in the first part (37-25, min. 16).

Tomic was the master of the match with his points and his assists to Feliz, while UCAM Murcia lost scores near the basket, with a very erratic Artem Pustovyi, and hardly created any danger from long distance to remain scoreless for five minutes.

James Anderson and David Jelinek reversed the situation in the final minutes of the first half, scoring the last eleven points for their team -by just a free kick from Joventut- and leaving Murcia only three down at halftime (39-36).

The third quarter began with an exchange of baskets and UCAM Murcia grabbed the game (48-43, min. 24). Until Joel Parra appeared to put all his talent at the service of the team and take it along with Simon Birgander to a 16-point lead (61-45, min. 29).

The green and black raised their defensive tone in the paint and the Murcians were lost when Sito Alonso rested James Anderson. A basket by Guy kept the maximum difference at the end of the quarter (66-50).

Joventut closed the game quickly with three-pointers from Feliz and Guy (78-56, min. 34) against an impotent rival who was completely lost on the court.

Faced with a completely dedicated opponent, the Catalans took the opportunity to make their audience enjoy themselves until the final honk. Guy continued impeccably from the three-point line to go up to 22 points and Yannick Kraag put on the show with a dunk (88-60, min. 37).
