Josh Taylor and Teófimo López, for the WBO super lightweight

Interesting shock for this summer. The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has ordered the confrontation between Josh Taylor (19-0-0, 13 KO) and Teófimo López (18-1-0, 13 KO) for the super lightweight belt. They are already in negotiations and are close to an agreement for the may 27th or the 3 of June in Scotland. They have 10 days to reach an agreement, otherwise they will go to auction.

Josh Taylor had agreed to a rematch with Jack Catterall (26-1-0, 13 KO). The Scotsman prevailed by unanimous decision and retained his unified super lightweight title in February last year in a controversial bout. The rematch was scheduled for March 4, it was postponed up to three times, but Taylor has had to request a postponement due to a plantar fascia injury.

boxxer, the Scotsman’s promoter, wanted to find a new date for the match, and another fight for Catterall so that he would not be inactive for so long. But Top Rank has been insisting on closing this clash, and the WBO has issued a statement ordering it.

Teófimo López comes from beating Sandor Martín (40-3-0, 13 KO) by split decision at Madison Square Garden in New York. The American of Honduran origin did not convince in his victory against the Spaniard, and now he is looking to present himself as one of the best again. His loss to George Kambosos (20-2-0, 10 KOs), where he lost the WBA, WBO and IBF lightweight crowns, marked him, and he hasn’t been the same in the ring since. Now he will have an undefeated fighter in front of him, and he needs to make the fans fall in love again.
