Josh Inglish Hits Fastest Century in Champions Trophy History

The Australian team made a stunning debut in 2025 with a historic victory against England, led by captain Steve Smith. In this match, the Aussies had a target of 352 runs to win, which they achieved at the loss of 5 wickets in 47.3 overs. Wicketkeeper batsman Josh Inglis played a pivotal role in the Australian team’s win, scoring an unbeaten 120 runs in 86 balls. This was not only Josh’s first century in ODI cricket, but it was also a special one.

Virender Sehwag’s Record Equaled by Josh Inglis

When Josh Inglis stepped up to bat against England, the Australian team had already lost three wickets for a score of 122. From there, Inglis, along with Alex Carey, shared a 146-run partnership in 116 balls for the 5th wicket, turning the match completely in Australia’s favor. Josh Inglis also completed his first ODI century in just 77 balls, which is the fastest century in the history of the Champions Trophy so far. By doing so, he equaled the 23-year-old record of former Indian player Virender Sehwag, who scored a century in 77 balls in a match against England in the 2002 Champions Trophy. In that match, Sehwag’s bat saw an innings of 126 runs in 104 balls.

Josh Inglis Breaks 19-Year-Old Record

Before this match, the record for the biggest innings as a wicketkeeper batsman in the ICC Champions Trophy for Australia was held by Adam Gilchrist, who scored 92 runs in a match against the West Indies in 2006. Josh Inglis has now broken this 19-year-old record with his unbeaten 120-run century. Additionally, Inglis has become the third Australian player to score a century in the Champions Trophy, after Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson. Watson achieved this feat in 2025, making Inglis the latest addition to this exclusive list.
