José Ramón Ramos, Former International Footballer, Passes Away

José Ramón Ramos, a former international basketball player with 67 caps for Spain, has died at the age of 81.

The brother of fellow former international player Vicente Ramos, José Ramón played for several top-tier teams including Estudiantes, Picadero and Real Madrid. According to the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), he was part of the Spanish team that won the silver medal in the 1963 Mediterranean Games. The FEB has sent its condolences to his entire family on his passing.

Born on February 2, 1943, in Salamanca, José Ramón Ramos enjoyed a successful playing career, winning numerous accolades including five league titles, two European Cups and four Cup titles with Real Madrid. He also helped Estudiantes claim a ko tournament victory.

In a tribute to the deceased, his former club, a collegiate basketball team, paid respects to Ramos by becoming the first club he coached, in addition to being its technical secretary. The club expressed its condolences to his family and friends, lamenting the passing of the basketball great on what they described as a “sad day” for the community.
