José Ramírez homers and triples in the victory of the Guardians

 

José Ramírez homered and drove in five runs on Saturday, leading Shane Bieber and the Cleveland Guardians to an 8-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Ramirez hit a three-run triple in the seventh inning and added a two-run shot in the ninth, giving him 12 home runs for the season.

The Dominican, a three-time All-Star, is batting .297 and leads the Major Leagues with 48 RBIs in 42 games.

Bieber (2-3) gave up one run on eight hits in eight innings, his longest performance of the season. The 2020 American League Cy Young Trophy winner struck out five and walked none.

Josh Naylor added two hits and a pair of RBIs for Cleveland, which had lost three in a row.

Detroit wasted another strong start from Alex Faedo (1-2), who gave up two runs on five hits.

For the Guardians, the Dominicans Ramírez 4-2 with three runs scored and five RBIs, Óscar González 4-2. The Dominican Óscar Mercado 1-0. The Venezuelan Andrés Giménez 4-1.

For the Tigers, the Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera 3-0. Puerto Ricans Javier Báez 4-0, Willi Castro 3-2 with an RBI. Colombian Harold Castro 4-3 with a run scored. The Dominican Jeimer Candelario 4-1.

Cardinals 8 Brewers 3

Nolan Gorman hit his first major league homer and Matthew Liberatore got his first major league win to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-3 on Saturday.

Liberatore (1-0), who was the organization’s minor league player of the year last season, overcame a pair of errors by Gorman in five scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, struck out six and walked three.

Gorman had four hits, drove in four runs and scored three times. Paul Goldschmidt had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs to extend his hitting streak to 19 games.

It was the first time the Cardinals had two players with four RBIs in the same game since Sept. 27, 2019, when Aledmys Diaz and Jhonny Peralta accomplished the feat.

Brewers starter Adrian Houser (3-5) allowed a career-high eight runs, five of which were earned, in four innings.

For the Brewers, the Mexican Luis Urías 4-1.

For the Cardinals, Puerto Rican Yadier Molina 4-1.
