Jos Buttler to Leave IPL 2025 Midway for England, Kusal Mendis to Replace Him

Gujarat Titans are riding high in the IPL 2025 standings, with 8 wins in 11 matches under Shubman Gill’s captaincy. Jos Buttler has been a key factor in their success, scoring over 500 runs so far. However, Buttler will miss the playoffs due to England’s upcoming ODI series against West Indies, which coincides with the IPL playoffs. Kusal Mendis will replace him for the playoffs. Mendis, who was playing in the PSL, opted out due to security concerns and is now joining the IPL, a league he’s new to.

The Titans have 3 matches left in the league stage and are likely to secure a playoff spot with another win. Their remaining opponents include Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Chennai Super Kings. With Buttler out, Gujarat will have to rely on Kumar Kushagra or Anuj Rawat as their wicketkeeper.

Buttler’s absence could impact Titans’ strategy

Buttler’s absence in the playoffs may force Gujarat to rethink their lineup. The team’s strong performance so far has been largely due to Buttler’s batting. Mendis, who has experience in the PSL, might need some time to adjust to the IPL.

Gujarat’s remaining matches will be crucial in determining their final standing in the league. If they win all 3, they could finish at the top. The team’s ability to adapt to Buttler’s absence will be put to the test in the playoffs.
