Jorge Sampaoli returns to Seville

The Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli was made official this Thursday as the new coach of Seville, where he will begin his second cycle in replacement of Julen Lopetegui.

“I am very happy to be able to return,” said Sampaoli from the car in which he entered the hotel where the team of Argentines Gonzalo Montiel, Alejandro “Papu” Gómez, Erik Lamela and Marcos Acuña usually gathers.

An hour later, the club made official through official channels the return of Sampaoli to the club with a contract until 2024. Jorge Desio, Diogo Meschine and Pablo Fernández will complete the coaching staff, as published by the club.

In the previous one, the Spanish media reported the incorporation of former Argentine defender Nicolás Pareja, who had a great step as a player, but for the moment it was not confirmed by the club.

Sampaoli, who had been managing Olympique de Marseille until July, will return to Seville to replace Julen Lopetegui, who said goodbye on Wednesday after the local defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the European Champions League.

In his first cycle between 2016 and 2017, just before assuming the Argentine national team, the Casildense led the team to fourth place in LaLiga and even to the knockout stages of the Champions League. He also lost the European Super Cup final against Real Madrid and the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona when he first took over.

Sampaoli will take charge of the squad this Thursday and will debut on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. in Argentina at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium against Athletic Bilbao.
