Jorge Martin to Miss MotoGP Races Due to Injury Recovery

The world of MotoGP is bracing for another significant absence, as reigning champion Jorge Martin, the 27-year-old Aprilia rider, is set to miss his second consecutive Grand Prix. Following his absence from the Thai Grand Prix, the first of 22 events in the 2025 season, Martin will also be sidelined for the Grand Prix of the Americas, the third round of the championship. This comes as a result of his ongoing recovery from a second surgical intervention this year, which will also keep him off the track for the upcoming Argentine Grand Prix.

It’s worth recalling that Martin’s woes began during the preseason, when he suffered a fracture to his left wrist on the first day of MotoGP testing in Sepang, back in early February. The Spanish rider underwent surgery in Barcelona, Spain, and was initially expected to make a swift return to action. However, his road to recovery has been marred by a series of setbacks, including a dramatic crash that sparked a heated debate between Aprilia and tire manufacturer Michelin over the causes of the incident. The crash not only left Martin with a fractured right hand but also resulted in a severe blow to the head and a fractured left foot.

In a cruel twist of fate, Martin’s attempts to rush back to competition were dealt a further blow when he crashed again during a training session, fracturing his left radius, carpal, and heel bones. The injuries were so severe that he required screws to be inserted into his radius and scaphoid bone to stabilize the fractures and aid in the healing process.

Despite being unable to participate in training sessions at the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo, Martin made a virtual appearance at the launch of the Argentine Grand Prix, where he expressed his uncertainty about his return to competition. The Madrid native hinted that he may also miss the Qatar Grand Prix, scheduled for April 13, and emphasized his desire to undergo a test session before making his comeback. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it to Qatar,” Martin admitted. “I’d like to do a test before returning to competition because I don’t feel very well. The truth is, it’s tough watching everything from home.” The Aprilia rider reiterated his commitment to only returning to the track when he is fully recovered, a stance that has been echoed by his team and fans alike.

As the MotoGP season heats up, Martin’s prolonged absence will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the championship standings. With several top riders vying for the top spot, the pressure is mounting, and Martin’s eventual return will be eagerly anticipated by fans and pundits alike. For now, the Spanish rider remains focused on his rehabilitation, determined to regain his strength and make a triumphant return to the track when the time is right.
