Jorge Alfonso will return as DT of Cibao FC

Cibao FC made official the hiring of the renowned Argentine coach Jorge Alfonso as its Technical Director for the 2022 season, in which they will have international commitments and the VIII version of the National Football League (LDF).

“I feel very happy to be here again in this club and that they have trusted us for another season and with a lot of desire to continue growing. It is our purpose and a great challenge that we have, “said Alfonso, when approached.

The Argentine has led Cibao since the 2020 campaign and last year the eleventh team from the city of Santiago won their second championship title, after having a unique campaign in terms of performance for a team in the LDF.

The Orange Fever achieved a total of 13 wins and 5 draws to win the regular phase undefeated, in which they scored 32 goals and only conceded eight in 18 games.

He then took it to second place in the Liguilla, crossing over to the Final. The Cibao won the title against Atlético Vega Real in an emotional two-way series, which ended the spectacle of professional Creole football on a high note

“Many may believe that being a champion one can relax, I feel that we have an even greater responsibility after what we achieved and we will work to ratify the good things we did last year,” said the DT in a reflective tone.

biggest challenge

Jorge Alfonso affirms that in principle the biggest challenge for Cibao FC will be to consolidate the squad again.

“As usually happens every season there are changes, there will be new members, there are players who will no longer accompany us and the great challenge will be to rebuild a solid group like the one we did last year and from there start specifying goals.” he indicated.

The DT of Cibao FC was aware that the league this year is going to be much more demanding than the previous one. “There are two teams less, therefore there are more than 20 players available to the other teams to make them even better.

Cibao is classified as League champion for the tournament "Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship 2022"which will be held in the country next May, with teams from Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

“Above all, we have this beautiful challenge ahead, not only the league tournament, but also the international one, the possibility of playing the “Concacaf League” or “Championms”. Many challenges that we can propose that feed the illusion of trying much harder to achieve goals, ”he said later.

Alfonso also thinks that the international tournament “is going to be very demanding for us and it is going to test the level at which we can be, so this season has different seasonings than the previous year, we will try to make it special too”.
