The closure of the winter transfer market on February 1st did not mean the end of opportunities for some out-of-contract players, such as Jonathan Viera. The Canary Islands midfielder recently terminated his contract with Las Palmas, making him available as a free agent to join UD Almería. This acquisition seems to be a logical solution for both sides, as the Rojiblanco club has chips to register the talented playmaker.
As newspaper AS reports, Jonathan Viera’s perspective goes beyond his time in Almería. He intends to move to the Saudi league next summer, a move influenced by the club’s management led by influential Saudi minister Turki Al-Sheikh.
Viera will provide a valuable presence in Almería’s midfield. His versatility, game vision, finishing ability and ball striking skills are considered essential resources to strengthen the Indálico team. It is important to note that Viera has not played in an official game since October, when he played a brief role in Las Palmas’ victory over Villarreal. This season he contributed two goals and one assist.
An experienced and absolutely necessary player
The acquisition of Jonathan Viera also brings experience and seniority to Almería, having had a distinguished career with teams such as Rayo Vallecano, Valencia, Standard de Lieja and Beijing Guoan in the Chinese league.
