"Don’t worry about us," declared the Bombay High Court with a chuckle this past Wednesday. They had a movie petition on their hands, and it was quickly shown the door. The court was hearing a plea to stop the release of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film, Jolly LLB 3. Petitioners claimed the movie was making fun of judges and lawyers, but the judges weren’t bothered.
This new installment in the Jolly LLB series brings back Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. They’re known for mixing humor and sharp wit into their courtroom battles. Director Subhash Kapoor’s previous Jolly LLB films earned a lot of love from audiences. Now, fans are buzzing for the third part.
The petition was brought forward by the ‘Association for Adding Justice.’ Their main complaint? They felt the film’s promoters and dialogues showed court proceedings in too lighthearted a way. This, they argued, hurt the dignity of the entire justice system. Deepesh Siroya, the lawyer for the petitioner, spoke in court. He specifically pointed to a song called "Bhai Vakil Hai," saying its lyrics disrespected the whole legal profession. He also mentioned scenes where judges were called ‘Mammu,’ which he believed was inappropriate for judicial dignity. The association asked the court to block the film’s release or at least make some changes, including removing the controversial song.
However, Chief Justice Shri Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankal weren’t swayed. They took the petition seriously but made it clear that such content didn’t affect them. The bench even smiled as they said, "We have been facing jokes from the beginning. Don’t worry about us." With that, they dismissed the petition. The judges found no reason to stop the movie’s release.
It turns out this isn’t the first time Jolly LLB 3 faced legal challenges. The filmmakers told the court that a similar petition was filed earlier in the Allahabad High Court. That one also got tossed out. This shows that courts generally don’t intend to put a halt on films that portray the judiciary, even with humor.
With the Bombay High Court’s decision, the path is now completely clear for the movie. Jolly LLB 3 is all set to hit cinemas on September 19. It looks like the silver screen will soon be bustling with more legal laughs.
