Jokubaitis guides Barça against a misguided Joventut

The Barça is already in the first final of the season (triumph by 82-69), that of the Catalan League, after a match in which it was clearly from less to more. Like so many times last season Barça got rid of their rival in the third quarter, led by Jokubaitis and before the general collapse of La Penya. Without Tomic and Bassas, Vives and Paul did not appear either.

The start of Barça was a demonstration of their identity as a team, with an intense and effective defense and with good shooting effectiveness. A 10-0 run, with Calathes in command, that Carles Durán was forced to stop with a time out. Perhaps one of the most effective that is remembered, because Joventut completely turned the game around. First with a partial 0-13, to which Willis contributed decisively, which ended up being a 4-24 against the Barca shipwreck.

Joventut felt much looser in attack, with Birgander taking advantage of his physique to hurt Barça on the inside. Without Oriola and Sanli, Badji and Davies were not particularly successful. Neither did Laprovittola, who had only a few minutes in the first half, which slowed down the game. With all the Joventut he commanded on the scoreboard, although the contribution of Higgins and good minutes from Jokubaitis left the score at 33-36 at the end of the first half.

After the break, Barça was more solid, fast and successful. A version closer to what Jasikevicius’ team showed last year, although still far from their best performances. Davies was key to Barça’s improvement, both in attack and defense, leaving Joventut behind again in the match (54-44). Jokubaitis, very fine, was the face while Brandon Paul, misguided, was the cross. The young Lithuanian point guard, in fact, was decisive in the second half, leading his team and generating advantages for his teammates.

With about 15 points of advantage for the Catalans, Joventut played a little more comfortable, as Barça rotated their best men and relaxed. But it was not the game of La Penya, very unfortunate from outside and unable to squeeze Barça. The Barça victory was never in danger.
