Johnson asks the G-7 for an increase in military aid to Ukraine to recover territory

The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has asked this Sunday the rest of the G-7 leaders to increase military aid to kyiv so that the Ukrainian forces can advance against the Russian Army instead of just holding on to their positions.

"Ukraine needs to obtain weapons that would allow it not only to keep its territory, but also to recover it"Johnson has made known in a message published by the prime minister’s office and picked up by Sky News.

The president has also stated that "the world needs to do more and act faster in support of Ukraine"as he made known during his appearance in the video call with the rest of the leaders of the main world economies.

Johnson finally highlighted the "wild irony" in relation to the fact that the leaders had met to discuss the invasion of Ukraine ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, just as many countries were commemorating the end of World War II.

In their meeting, the leaders of the G-7 (Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom) committed to ban imports of Russian oil at the end of the remote summit held this Sunday, according to the final statement published by the White House.

The US, for its part, has announced additional sanctions against Russian television networks, industries, the military and banking executives.
