Joey Gallo placed on the disabled list

Minnesota slugger Joey Gallo was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring before the Twins’ 4-2 loss to Cleveland on Saturday night.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Friday that Gallo has been dealing with the injury “for a while now.” The team recalled outfielder Kyle Garlick from Triple-A St. Paul.

Gallo is hitting .188 with 11 home runs and 23 RBIs in 46 games this season. He leads the Twins in home runs and OPS (.799).

It’s the second time on the disabled list for Gallo this season after missing 10 games in April with an intercostal strain.

Garlick, in his third stint with the Twins this season, is hitting .235 with two home runs and four RBIs in eight games.

Outfielder Byron Buxton and shortstop Carlos Correa are also out of the starting lineup for the second straight game. Buxton has sore ribs after being hit by a pitch Thursday, and Correa is dealing with plantar fasciitis.

Baldelli was not expected to be with the team for Saturday’s game after he said he spent time in the hospital that morning and has diverticulitis. But he was late and managed the club.

“I’m not moving too well right now, to be honest with you,” Baldelli said. “I wasn’t sure if I was going to be here. But if I could walk, today I would arrive at the stadium.
