Joel Embiid tests positive for covid-19 and will be low for at least 10 days with Sixers

Cameroonian center Joel Embiid, of the Philadelphia Sixers, tested positive for covid-19 and will be out for at least 10 days, according to information provided by the team on Monday.

Embiid will miss the game that the Sixers will play today against the New York Knicks and will have to follow the covid-19 health and safety protocols established by the NBA.

That would mean Embiid would miss at least five games and potentially could return sometime late next week, while Philadelphia is in the middle of a six-game road trip, most to be played on the West Coast.

Embiid becomes the fourth player in the Sixers roster to test positive in recent days after forward Tobias Harris and guards Matisse Thybulle and Isaiah Joe have been dropped.

The Sixers’ All-Star center averages 21.4 points; 9.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the nine games he has played since the new season began.

With Embiid out, his spot will be filled in the starting five by center Andre Drummond, who was signed last summer as a free agent.

Despite the losses suffered and not having the star point guard, Australian Ben Simmons, who has refused to play with the team after requesting the transfer, the Sixers lead the Eastern Conference with a record of 8-2.
