Last Sunday there was an exciting confrontation between Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, in which Joao Félix appeared as one of the great protagonists. But despite scoring the only goal of the game, the young Portuguese’s gesture left an indelible impression on the Colchonera fans.
Joao Félix’s celebration as he scored the goal that secured victory for Barcelona did not go unnoticed. The striker climbed onto the advertising boards, crossed his arms and looked towards the stands, which happened to be occupied by Atlético de Madrid fans. This action provoked the anger of the red and white fans and Alberto García, spokesman for the International Union of Fan Clubs of the Madrid club, did not hesitate to express his indignation.
As the newspaper Sport reported, García spoke on behalf of a significant part of the Colchonera fans and declared Joao Félix persona “non grata” at the Metropolitan Stadium. The spokesman regretted the player’s attitude, which he said represented a betrayal of the loyalty of a fan who had supported him during his stay at the club. “Now it turns out that he has been a member of Barça since he was a child and celebrates goals as if it were a title,” said García, visibly annoyed.
García’s criticism focused on the perceived lack of respect for fans shown by his own. The spokesman claims that Joao Félix made an unforgivable mistake by creating a hostile atmosphere in the Metropolitan. “We don’t want to see him wear the Atlético de Madrid jersey again. He didn’t deserve it and he didn’t understand this club or these fans,” emphasized García.
They don’t even want to see it in the painting
Although Joao Félix remains the property of Atlético, Colchonero fans hope that the player does not return to the club. García recalled the financial effort the club had made to sign the player and pointed out that his thankless celebration had left a deep wound. Although some claim that Joao Félix hasn’t had a great performance in the league, García insists that his attitude is the main reason for his rejection.
