Joan Mir: "Suzuki has apologized to me"

Weak, very weak rating of Joan Mir at the San Marino MotoGP GP. He will start eleventh and explained the failure from Suzuki at the press conference.

-How was today?

-The balance of the day is positive and everything was going very well until the officer, who the truth is that nothing has gone well. In the first outing, something did not work well with the front of the bike, I think something about the tire pressure or something like that, and the steering was very closed. I have had two big scares and I have decided to stop as soon as possible for this reason. And when I have mounted another tire and I have gone out, the dashboard on the bike I marked ‘Box’. Normally they don’t usually send me this message and when they do it is like an alarm and it means that we have to stop. And when I entered the box and I saw that they told me to continue, I quickly understood that it had been a failure and that has conditioned the entire official. We were doing very well until the official, but good. Starting eleven here complicates things for us, but I think I am one of the few who can start eleven and have a good race. This is not the first time we went out back here.

-You said that on the display they have marked ‘Box’. Have you talked to them afterwards? What have they told you?

-Yes, yes, we have talked, because when these kinds of things happen you have to talk, you have to understand why. Suzuki has apologized to me, it was a failure inside the box, and this happens. It is important that when someone makes a mistake they know how to accept it, just as I also make many mistakes and I also accept them many times. It is a move that I appreciate from Suzuki, because I believe that they do the right thing, you have to know when to apologize, and I know that they will work very hard so that this does not happen again and understand what has happened and from now on have it more in consideration. This type of thing can happen to all of us and I am sure that tomorrow I will try to turn the matter around and see if we can leave here with a good race, which the team deserves.

-Do you have the feeling that you lack the luck of the champion? Although with two errors in the same session I would get quite angry: a front tire that does not have the pressure and a I do not know what …

-I don’t think the tire came out with the wrong pressure, the conditions simply change and you have to understand well what happened to the rubber, I don’t think it came out with a different pressure because normally there are not many failures in the tire. Pressure issues and things like that, I always go out with the pressures as they play. And, yes, it was a failure, but it is something that can happen and it has surely happened to a lot of people in the first outing, but then they put the other tire on, they threw it and the issue was over. The problem has come later with the failure of the message of ‘Box’. In these circumstances, what you just have to do is keep calm, that is, I make mistakes many times and the team is there and they cheer me on, and such. In 2019 it was difficult to hold on surely for all the mistakes I made, for all the jump starts, for throwing riders, falling when I didn’t have to, falling in the warm up lap … and the team was there. So if there are problems I will be there too. It is clear that the face that I put here in front is the same one that I put on them, but the difference is that I tell them things there, that this does not have to happen again, I don’t know what, but why do I have to get frustrated and throw things away? It is not my style, my style is to speak things well, find a solution and if a factory like Suzuki comes and apologizes for a failure after all that I have committed, what am I going to tell them? I’m going to try to turn this around tomorrow and make this an anecdote to learn from it and that’s it.

-Did you even feel that it was the best weekend so far this year? And will he use the rear holeshot?

– (laughs). We are all the same here, let’s see what we do… I think that in Aragon I started to feel good with the bike and I think I can have a very solid end of the season. The point is that, of course, the first three of the championship throughout the weekend we have been very fast, all of them, I have missed finishing in the official but they have not been wrong. I’m going to try to do my best tomorrow and try to be with them, I know it’s difficult, Pecco is going very fast, but I’ll try to get my weapons out too. It is done.
